Epoxy Flooring in Bendigo

Coating a floor takes more than the coating. The Building and Plumbing Commission's page on its floor finishing and covering class lists preparing, sanding and applying coating systems, and WorkSafe Victoria's dust guidance applies to the grinding. Before you agree to a date, ask who is doing the work, how the dust will be controlled and what the quote includes.

What epoxy flooring in Bendigo actually involves

The Commission describes a registration class limited to painting and decorating work for homes, which “involves the preparation of surfaces and the application of paint or other substances for protective, decorative or technical purposes”, and a separate class limited to floor finishing and covering work for homes, which excludes floor tiling. Consumer Affairs Victoria says a practitioner must be registered for work worth more than A$10,000, except for work involving only one of a listed set of trades that includes painting and installing floor coverings, and that a person must be registered if they combine skills, such as plastering and painting, on one job. None of these pages says which heading a resin coating sits under. Ask the contractor which class they work under, and check the name on the Commission's register.

Grinding

WorkSafe Victoria says concrete contains crystalline silica, that grinding creates silica dust, and that effective dust controls, such as on-tool water suppression or on-tool dust extraction, need to be used when grinding materials that contain it. Ask which the contractor uses, and what happens to the slurry if it is water.

What is on the floor now, and where the wash-water goes

If tiles, sheet vinyl or adhesive were laid before 1990, Asbestos Victoria says it is safest to assume they contain asbestos, and that you can have them tested if you need to be certain. Test before anything is ground or sanded. EPA Victoria says wastewater must be kept out of stormwater drains so far as reasonably practicable, so ask where the slurry and wash-water will go. The grinding and preparation page goes further on the dust, and the garage floor page on old coverings.

Two local things are worth raising when you ask for a quote. Bendigo Airport's record gives a July mean minimum of 2.7 °C (Bureau of Meteorology, read 6 October 2026), and some suburbs have a flood history that the suburb pages set out. Neither changes what a regulator requires: each is a question for the contractor. The costs page lists every rule against the job's value.

Epoxy Flooring in Bendigo — common questions

Who is allowed to coat my floor?

It depends on the kind of job. The Building and Plumbing Commission has registration classes for painting and decorating and for floor finishing and covering, and Consumer Affairs Victoria lists single-trade work, including painting and floor coverings, that needs no registration above A$10,000. The pages do not say where a resin coating sits, so ask which class the contractor works under.

Is grinding a concrete floor dangerous?

It can be: concrete contains crystalline silica and grinding makes silica dust. WorkSafe Victoria says effective dust controls, such as on-tool water suppression or dust extraction, need to be used.

What should a quote tell me?

Consumer Affairs Victoria says a quote should be clear about what it covers and give a careful estimate of how long the work will take, and say whether it includes transport, materials, labour and call-out or weekend rates.
