A Bendigo winter and your garage floor: what the weather record says before you book

By Artigellence ·

Bendigo Airport's mean minimum temperature is 2.7 °C in July, and 3.6 °C in June and 3.0 °C in August, in the Bureau of Meteorology's climate statistics. Choose the time of year for a floor coating on what the contractor says their system needs, not on the calendar. The garage floor coating page and the epoxy floor costs and rules check cover the rest.

What the record says

The Bureau of Meteorology's table for Bendigo Airport (station 081123, with a record starting in 1991) gives mean minimum temperatures of 3.6 °C in June, 2.7 °C in July and 3.0 °C in August, against 14.5 °C in January. We read the page on 6 October 2026, and it shows data to 5 February 2026.

These are averages for one airport station. A particular garage in the council area may be colder or warmer on a given night, and an average minimum says nothing about the day.

What we cannot say

We cannot say what temperature a coating needs. That limit comes from the maker of the product and the contractor's method, and no government source gives one, so we state none.

What to ask instead

Ask which coating system the contractor uses, what temperature limit it has for the air and for the floor, and what they do if a cold night falls inside the job. Ask whether the quote allows for waiting, and who decides.

Rules that do not change with the season

Two rules apply whatever the weather. WorkSafe Victoria says effective dust controls, such as on-tool water suppression or on-tool dust extraction, need to be used when grinding concrete, and EPA Victoria says wastewater must be kept out of stormwater drains so far as reasonably practicable. The rules check on the costs page lists both with their sources.

What could change

Averages are revised as years are added to a station's record. Read the Bureau's current page before relying on any figure here.
